Article: Thermal coating: fast, sustainable and cost-effective
Repair instead of replacement – that is what DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung at its Chemnitz site stands for. With our innovative thermal coating process, used for components such as the gearbox housings of the 29x series, we are pioneering new ways to restore older components to working order cost-effectively and reliably.
Thermal coating, also known as thermal spraying or metal spraying, allows metals or ceramics in the form of wire or powder to be melted and applied to components as a thin functional layer – for maximum wear and corrosion protection, dimensional corrections and surfaces with precisely the desired properties. Our infrastructure includes state-of-the-art large-scale blasting systems, several spraying booths and a grinding booth for finishing.
What are the benefits?
✔️ Protection against wear and corrosion✔️ Dimensional corrections and repair of worn fits✔️ Extended service life of components✔️ Functionalisation of surfaces (e.g. slip-resistant, hard, temperature-resistant)
Our proven processes, such as wire flame spraying and arc spraying, enable the rapid and on-time regeneration of bearing seats as well as the production of pseudo-alloys through flexible material selection. The result: a repair that takes significantly less time and costs considerably less than purchasing new parts.
We look to the future
Our range is constantly expanding – with new technologies, a wider selection of materials and specialised functional coatings. Our customers benefit from efficient processes, cost-effective solutions and a significantly reduced downtime for their vehicles.
