New comfort features for the ICE T

After more than 20 years in service and millions of kilometres travelled, it was time to give the ICE T a fresh new look. DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung was entrusted with the important task of leading the modernisation project for the 411 series

Together with our partners – DB Fernverkehr, DB Systemtechnik and DB´s Procurement Department – we were able to contribute our extensive expertise and many years of experience. As a passenger, the first thing you notice about the modernised ICE T is the new seat cushions in both 1st and 2nd class, featuring the new interior design. The toddler compartment and the seat cover in the board restaurant also shine in fresh colours and new fabrics. Tactile seat numbering, new passenger tables and new carpeting complete the picture. In the toilets, new wall coverings and a replaced washbasin enhance the appearance. Particular attention was paid to sustainability: instead of procuring new seat frames, existing seats were modernised in a resource-efficient manner.

The excellent cooperation between all parties involved is particularly noteworthy. Through cross-divisional teamwork and personal dialogue, challenges in the areas of design, procurement, logistics and production across three sites were successfully overcome.

The result speaks for itself: customer satisfaction with the ICE T has risen significantly since the programme was implemented – DB Fernverkehr and passengers are praising the new level of comfort. This is a strong testament to innovation, quality and collaborative partnership, all in the interests of our passengers.
