Article: Partial painting: a first in train painting at the Nuremberg maintenance depot
Since 2018, we have been carrying out full-train painting at our Nuremberg maintenance depot – including for complete, coupled trains. Thanks to sequential feeding, we can paint trains on two tracks without uncoupling them. This significantly reduces the time the trains spend at the depot.
Our specialists can paint 105 metres without restriction – with a turnaround, over 200 metres can be processed using the whole-train method.
For the first time, we have now carried out targeted partial paint repairs on several regional trains for DB Regio NRW. Instead of painting a complete series of vehicles, the paintwork was repaired individually and as required for each train. For the five vehicles, the partial repainting covered between 25 and 70 percent of the total surface area.
This task presented our team with new challenges – such as the precise planning of paint quantities and work steps. The requested colour combination of green and white instead of the conventional Regio red was also a special feature, which we successfully mastered thanks to our experience and flexibility.
