Article: Sustainability at DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung
DB AG aims to become climate-neutral by 2040. This objective is supported by a detailed implementation plan that has been externally validated. Further information can be found in DB AG's Annual Report. As part of this effort, DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung works closely with DB Energie to increase the share of heat and electricity from renewable energy sources supplied to our facilities. By using renewable energy on site, we reduce our CO₂ emissions.
Our Contribution to Energy Efficiency
Through energy-efficient building refurbishments, the use of photovoltaic systems and solar thermal technology, as well as the modernization of our machinery and equipment, we help reduce energy consumption and promote the efficient use of resources. Together with our partners and customers, we develop products and solutions that extend the service life of vehicles and components, thereby helping to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency.
Our Contribution to Biodiversity Conservation
We also support biodiversity by protecting habitats for endangered animal and plant species. This is particularly relevant when expanding our maintenance capacities through the construction of new workshops or track infrastructure. We take biodiversity considerations into account from the earliest planning stages to minimize impacts on wildlife and vegetation. Where necessary, protected species are temporarily relocated to suitable habitats before construction work begins. In completed projects, for example, sand lizards, ants and other protected species have been successfully relocated to new habitats.
Our Contribution to Sustainable Supply Chains
As DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH, we take responsibility for our operations in Germany as well as in all other countries in which we operate. We therefore expect our suppliers to treat people and the environment with respect as the foundation of a reliable business relationship.
With the introduction of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, LkSG), legislators established a framework for responsible and sustainable value creation throughout the supply chain. DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH complies with the requirements of the LkSG.
We report annually to the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) on the fulfilment of our due diligence obligations under the LkSG. The report for the 2023 financial year is available here.
To ensure compliance with the LkSG within our own business operations and throughout our supply chain, we have established a complaints procedure. Through this channel, concerns and information regarding human rights risks, environmental risks, or potential violations of human rights-related or environmental obligations can be reported.
The complaints procedure is available via deutschebahn.com/lksg. Further information can also be found in our Rules of Procedure.
