Article: Deutsche Bahn invests 18 million euros in the Krefeld maintenance depot

Work has begun on a new maintenance hall at the Krefeld maintenance depot of DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung. Completion is planned for the course of 2024.

At the Krefeld maintenance depot, construction work began in mid-April on a new hall measuring around 2,700 square metres. In the future, trains with major damage will be repaired here. Among other things, four so-called heavy-duty welding stands will be built. At the same time, other workshops will be relocated, creating additional capacity.

"With our investment, we are sending a clear signal for Krefeld as a railway location and permanently securing more than 1,000 jobs for North Rhine-Westphalia and contributing to the transport turnaround in the sense of strong rail," says Dr. Thomas Steiner, head of Krefeld maintenance depot, happily.

In the future, the number of long-distance passengers is to increase to 260 million per year.  To achieve this goal, up to 600 ICE trains will be in transit in Germany in the future. In this way, DB wants to improve the offer for climate-friendly travel throughout the country. To ensure that the many new trains can be maintained, cleaned and repaired, investments in DB's maintenance facilities are also necessary. Krefeld also benefits from this.
