Article: Contract signed with Beacon Rail
42 Siemens locomotives of the 193 and 189 series will undergo a comprehensive overhaul at the Dessau maintenance depot in the coming years. This has now been agreed in a contract between DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung and the leasing company Beacon Rail. The contract concluded between DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung and Beacon Rail ensures that DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung will act as a reliable partner for the maintenance and repair of locomotives for years to come.
An overview of Beacon Rail
Beacon Rail is a leading locomotive European leasing company based in Luxembourg. The company has operated numerous locomotives and multiple units on the European mainland over the years. Beacon Rail's best-known locomotives include the 193 and 189 series Vectrons, which are now the focus of the latest agreement.
Overhaul of 42 locomotives
The new contract covers the overhaul of 42 locomotives, divided as follows: 22 class 189 locomotives and 20 class 193 locomotives. The work is to be carried out between 2026 and 2028. The total order volume amounts to an impressive 5 million euros. The two locomotives are new builds. The 193 is currently the newest locomotive, it is around ten years old, while the 189 was launched on the market around 20 years ago. The class 193 is the locomotive that has been sold the most in Europe in recent years. Around 1,700 units are currently on the market.
In addition to the general inspection of the vehicles, the bogies and wheelsets as well as various electronic components will also be overhauled. There is also a specific component contract that provides for processing in various maintenance depots: Electronic components such as main switches, compressors and pantographs will be refurbished in Dessau, while brake components will be processed in Fulda and electronic and plug-in cards in Munich. Work on train driver seats is planned for Wittenberge.
With its strategic orientation towards major contracts and its focus on long-term partnerships, the DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung is well positioned to successfully meet the challenges of the future.
